What was your vision when stepping into your leadership role at Congdon and Coleman and what accomplishments are you most proud of?

Tom: Congdon and Coleman has existed since 1931, so when I took it over in 1985, I was most interested in carrying on the founders’ legacy. They had a real affection for this island. After almost 30 years of introducing families to the wonders of Nantucket, I am most pleased that many have become life-long friends over many generations.

What do you love most about living and working in Nantucket?

Tom: Aside from the fact that the island is a world-class resort destination during the spring, summer and fall, the real soul of the community is best appreciated in the off-season when we relax into the joys of small town living. My children were born here; my son, Mason, works beside me, as does my nephew, Matt Payne.

How has technology, social media and online marketing changed your approach to business?

Tom: I can still remember when we bought our first computer. We have fully embraced all that technology has to offer, working to stay in constant contact via smart phones and iPads. We have a professional SEO team to maximize our web presence. Our association with Leverage Global Partners is the latest example.

When not at the helm of the office, Tom can be found sailing a Swan 46 around New England and the Caribbean or golfing at the Sankaty Golf Club where his game "continues to humble me!"
