What was your vision in founding/stepping into leadership at The Marchant Company, Inc.?

Encouraged by my father, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and felt after working 25 years for another company that the time was right (1993) for me to step out on my own. At that time I sensed that there was a void in the Greenville market for a company that specialized in new home sales and subdivision development. And that is the way The Marchant Company started.

Can you describe a significant turning point in your career?

No particular "single" thing, just a burning desire to do my own thing and be my own boss.

How has technology, social media and online marketing changed and/or impacted your approach to business?

It's truly amazing to me how these factors have changed our approach to business. We pay much attention to all and are constantly looking for new ways to improve our business by the implementation of all three.

What do you love most about working and living in Greenville?

I was born and raised in Greenville and never desired to live anywhere else. The people here are wonderful and Greenville is truly a unique city with so much to offer.

How do you like to spend your free time?

We have a mountain home not far from Greenville and I love to spend time there. I also enjoy going to athletic events especially anything involving my Clemson Tigers, but the one thing I enjoy most is spending time with my seven grandchildren.

How do you think your colleagues would describe you?

I would hope they would say they enjoy working for us, that I'm a good listener and that I want to see them succeed.

What is your daily "must-do"?

I try to start each day with a brief devotional followed by an hour or so of exercise.

Name one thing we might not know about you.

I have a huge respect for men and women in the armed forces, all veterans and all others who serve our community. I briefly considered a career in the Army while on active duty.

Makings of the Marchant Company



After working in the Greenville real estate market for twenty-five years, Seabrook Marchant founded the Marchant Company in 1993 as a new home sales and subdivision development company. After two years of exclusively representing builders and new home communities, the Marchant Company entered the general real estate and property management business. Beginning with one client, two employees and an in-home office, the Marchant Company has grown to twenty-four agents with two office locations in the Upstate.



Celebrating 20 Years of History



Over its twenty year history, the Marchant Company has been recognized as the Small Business of the Month and nominated for Small Business of the Year in 2002 by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Other accomplishments include being named the exclusive marketing company for Montebello luxury subdivision in 1997, receiving a license to do business in North Carolina in 2004 and forming Marchant Property Management, LLC in 2009 to provide tenants, homeowners and investors across the Upstate a variety of property management services. In the same year, the Marchant Company founder, Seabrook Marchant, was awarded “Realtor Emeritus” status by the National Association of Realtors honoring his 40 plus years of work as a Realtor. 



Family Foundations



Seabrook Marchant graduated from Clemson University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He is a Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB), a Graduate of the REALTOR® Institute (GRI), and a Certified New Home Marketing Professional (CMP). He works alongside three of his family members at the Marchant Company and is a dedicated Greenville community volunteer. He serves as chairman of Faith Memorial Chapel, Board of Trustees in Cedar Mountain, NC, is a Meals on Wheels volunteer and a board member of Greenville Home Builders Association and Secretary of Connector 2000 Association (Southern Connector). He previously served as President of both the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors and the Greenville Multiple Listings Service.
